Buccola (Filippo “Phil”) is born in Palermo, Italy.

Filippo Buccola emigrates to Boston in 1920, becomes a fight promoter, and then the reputed head of organized crime, first in Boston, and then, after merging with the Providence gang of Frank Morelli, in all New England. He relinquishes the position to Raymond Patriarca in 1954, returns to Sicily, and dies there at age 101 in 1987.
